About the position

The Electric Systems Analyst is responsible for maintaining and updating the electric utility network model and Geographic Information System (GIS) for the City of Statesville. This role involves assisting engineering and design staff, ensuring the accuracy of GIS data, and operating the Outage Management System (OMS) using ESRI's Utility Network models. The analyst will also coordinate GIS projects, produce high-quality maps, and train other employees in GIS applications.

Responsibilities

  • Update and maintain the electric utility network model/GIS.
  • Assist engineering and design staff with GIS-related tasks.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of information in the GIS database.
  • Operate the Outage Management System (OMS) using ESRI's Utility Network models.
  • Maintain and update maps and records in GIS Enterprise based on completed work orders.
  • Develop and maintain maps, map viewers, and geo-spatial tools using ESRI's ArcGIS and AutoCAD.
  • Publish geometric networks from ESRI to the OMS.
  • Coordinate and manage electric GIS projects as a project manager.
  • Receive and import new site plans into the Electric GIS database.
  • Produce high-quality maps utilizing cartographic skills.
  • Train electric employees in GIS applications and tools.
  • Perform field verification of electric facilities using GPS and other methods.
  • Analyze and interpret information from various sources for GIS formats.
  • Assist the IT GIS Administrator with GIS hardware and software issues.
  • Explore automation opportunities using GIS-enabled tools.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in GIS, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field and four (4) years of experience as a GIS Technician, Analyst, or similar role; or
  • Six (6) years of experience as a GIS Technician, Analyst, or similar role.
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS, SQL, and AutoCAD products.
  • General knowledge of GIS systems and utility distribution system design.
  • Ability to read and interpret various reports, maps, and surveys.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Office products such as Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of the North Carolina State Plane Coordinate Grid System.
