About the position

The GIS Specialist I position at Anne Arundel County involves professional work in the development and utilization of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The role includes managing existing GIS platforms, developing new GIS applications for the County, and ensuring quality control and maintenance of GIS databases. The incumbent will coordinate activities within a computer support unit and collaborate with various departments to provide technical information and services.

Responsibilities

• Perform all required GIS operations using Arc/Info and Mapinfo.
• Collect, organize, and maintain GIS files from local, county, State, and federal agencies.
• Provide the County with a full range of digital mapping and map production.
• Coordinate the construction and maintenance of GIS databases and prepare technical documentation.
• Communicate verbally and in writing to document and present policies, procedures, and project information.
• Perform research utilizing geographic techniques within computer systems.
• Manage system configuration, database construction and maintenance, and system performance.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in geography, cartography, planning, computer science, civil engineering or related disciplines.
• Two (2) or more years of experience in the operation and application of GIS technology.
• A valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.

Nice-to-haves

• One (1) or more years experience working with Esri ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS online software.
• One (1) or more years experience editing in a versioned editing environment (either branch or traditional).
