About The Position

The City of Sugar Land is seeking a full-time GIS Specialist in the Information Technology Department. This role focuses on collecting, integrating, and maintaining GIS data related to water infrastructure assets, ensuring data integrity, and supporting decision-making through spatial analysis. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Computer Science, Urban Planning, or a related field from an accredited school or university, or an Associates or higher degree in GIS from an accredited school or university is preferred.
  • Four or more years of GIS technology experience.
  • Experience with ESRI ArcGIS software suite, including ArcGIS Pro, and related extensions preferred.
  • Experience with Field Maps and Survey 123 preferred.
  • Municipal GIS experience preferred.
  • Valid Texas Class 'C' Driver License.

Nice To Haves

  • GISP - Certified GIS Professional Certification preferred.
  • FAA Part 107 License preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and integrate GIS data from various sources, including GPS surveys and as-built drawings.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date GIS databases for water infrastructure assets.
  • Perform data quality control checks to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
  • Create and maintain maps and exhibits for planning, engineering, and operation purposes.
  • Perform spatial analysis to support decision-making, such as identifying areas with aging infrastructure or high leak potential.
  • Generate reports and presentations based on GIS data.
  • Collaborate effectively with departments, colleagues, and stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.
  • Stay current with GIS technologies and best practices.
  • Work as an essential employee before, during, and after an emergency or disaster.
