About the position

The GIS Specialist at Eocene Environmental Group will support various projects related to utility, transportation, telecommunications, and energy infrastructure. This role involves managing and updating GIS data, developing tools for process improvement, and effectively communicating GIS concepts to project staff. The position allows for remote work, ideally for candidates located in the Western United States.

Responsibilities

  • Update and maintain ArcGIS online maps.
  • Manage data updates while practicing good recordkeeping principles.
  • Develop tools to improve and automate processes.
  • Listen to the needs of project staff and incorporate feedback.
  • Troubleshoot problems, research solutions, and seek improvements.
  • Clearly communicate GIS concepts and issues to project staff with minimal GIS knowledge.
  • Support and participate in the culture of safety and employee ownership.
  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Degree in GIS, cultural resources, biology, natural resource management, environmental studies, geology, or similar field.
  • Strong preference for familiarity with cultural resources.
  • 2+ years of GIS experience.
  • Strong familiarity with ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Field Maps.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot problems and research solutions.
  • Effective communication skills in writing, email, and telephone.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English sufficient to perform job duties.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing offline Field Maps for large projects.
  • Familiarity with typical utility operations, maintenance, or construction activities.
  • Familiarity with Survey 123 Connect or ArcGIS Survey 123 Web Designer.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Arcade, Python, HTML, Javascript, and SQL.
  • Familiarity with dashboards.
  • Previous experience in NEPA, FERC, NHPA, ESA, and/or other environmental programs.
