About the position

The GIS Technician position involves providing support for spatial realignment activities and improving the company's GIS system model. The role requires maintaining and updating land base information, ensuring quality and accuracy in mapping, and assisting with various GIS-related projects and tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide QA/QC support for spatial realignment activities.
  • Participate in projects to develop and improve the company's GIS system model and related applications.
  • Post as-built changes required due to construction projects using GIS Software.
  • Maintain and update land base information such as subdivisions, municipal annexations, and roads.
  • Coordinate resolution of error reports including TLM, OAS, and ADMS.
  • Check finished mapping and detailed drawings for quality, accuracy, and adherence to standards.
  • Create, maintain, and prepare special maps, drawings, or reports as required.
  • Provide maps and specialized drawings for internal customers for design and maintenance purposes.
  • Maintain and update information in the Transformer Load Management system.
  • Assist in the development of procedures, processes, and methods for system record maintenance.
  • Assist with special assignments such as change management and software upgrades/enhancements.
  • Maintain the security of confidential and sensitive information obtained in connection with Company business.
  • Facilitate efficient utilization of GIS and other mapping products by co-workers.

Requirements

  • An associate's degree from an accredited college or university in a technical field is required, preferably in Computer-Aided Design or Engineering Technology.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • Proficiency with GIS, MicroStation, AutoCAD, or other CAD-related software preferred.
  • One or more years of experience designing, analyzing, or interpreting construction drawings is preferred.
  • Experience in utility design, construction, or supervision including distribution line, surveying, and estimating with knowledge of utility standards, procedures, and distribution systems preferred.
  • Good decision-making, communication, and human relations skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products preferred.
  • Project management skills require guidance/direction from leadership or experienced peers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in utility design and construction supervision.
  • Knowledge of utility standards and procedures.
  • Ability to work within project time frames and prioritize tasks.
