About the position

Stillwater Sciences is seeking a GIS Technician/Cartographer to join our GIS team, providing essential support for river restoration and watershed analysis projects across the western U.S. This role involves performing GIS administration tasks, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and delivering customized cartographic support for various project needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide customized cartographic support, including maps for project reports and presentations.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control of geospatial data, following specific protocols.
  • Create and maintain metadata documentation.
  • Collaborate with non-GIS staff to explain spatial data and communicate data processing workflows.
  • Support field tablet and handheld GNSS mobile mapping device preparation and management.
  • Develop and maintain webmaps using ArcGIS Online.
  • Support GIS and AutoCAD data integration workflows.
  • Perform data entry, technical writing, and other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Work as part of multidisciplinary resource teams including biologists and engineers.
  • Manage multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines effectively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Computer Science, Geography, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of work experience in a consulting environment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of ESRI's ArcGIS Desktop 10.8 / ArcGIS Pro 3.3.
  • Familiarity with ArcGIS Online and Google Earth is a plus.
  • Experience with geospatial workflows for Civil Engineering and familiarity with AutoDesk Civil 3D is a plus.
  • Experience with electronic data collection and processing tools like ArcGIS Collector/Field Maps, Survey123, Trimble Terrasync, and Pathfinder Office.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high-quality cartographic representation and metadata maintenance.
  • Basic principles of graphic design knowledge.
  • Strong communication skills to convey technical questions and ideas to both GIS and non-GIS staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and excellent time management skills.
