About the position

The GIS Technician role at US Tech Solutions involves performing tasks related to the recording and production of information associated with utility systems. This position requires maintaining the GIS connected model, analyzing data, and producing reports and maps. The technician will also resolve data conflicts and assist in various projects while operating office equipment and vehicles as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform assignments related to recording or producing information for utility systems.
• Maintain the GIS connected model with data from various sources.
• Perform analysis or queries to prepare reports, charts, and maps from asset information.
• Produce standard prints and ad-hoc plots for field requests.
• Maintain service point data and its relationship to source transformers.
• Track lifespan of utility asset data, including history and inspections.
• Resolve conflicting data and mapping issues through investigation.
• Perform GIS work for major projects like facility relocations and load rearrangements.
• Operate automated office equipment such as printers and scanners.
• File records and data related to work assignments.
• Perform manual or computer-aided drafting tasks.
• Operate a car or light truck as needed.
• Assist other employees in plant work, fieldwork, or office tasks.

Requirements

• Ability to acquire knowledge of the company's business applications.
• Familiarity with materials, equipment, and apparatus used in the work.
• Understanding of the Utilities' Transmission and Distribution systems.
• Knowledge of operating and maintenance handbooks and safety rules.
• Valid driver's license to operate motor vehicles in New Jersey.
• Computer skills in MS Office and other Windows applications.

Nice-to-haves

• 1-2 years of GIS experience (school or work-related).
• Knowledge of MicroStation and AutoCAD is a strong plus.
