About the position

The GIS Technician position at the Tennessee Office of Outdoor Recreation is a temporary role focused on providing data entry support and geospatial analysis for the Bureau of Conservation. The successful candidate will work remotely within Tennessee, contributing to the management and enhancement of GIS systems to support outdoor recreation and conservation efforts. This role requires strong communication skills, creativity in problem-solving, and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a GIS consultant and help to apply geospatial analysis and potential solutions to solve business needs across the Bureau
• Support GIS data collection at Parks and provide timely map updates
• Build custom GIS tools, reporting, and visualization of spatial data
• Create, edit, manage, and publish GIS feature datasets, both in a geodatabase environment and on the cloud

Requirements

• Expert knowledge of Esri software, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
• Proficiency in creating, editing, managing, and publishing GIS feature data
• Strong skills in cartographic design and geospatial analysis methods
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications
• Bachelor's degree in Geography, Earth Science, Data Science, or a related field
• 2 years of relevant work experience in conservation, natural resources, or recreation industries

Nice-to-haves

• Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
• Experience with Avenza MAPublisher
• Familiarity with Arcade and/or JavaScript programming or API integration for GIS applications
• Qualifying graduate-level coursework in GIS
