About the position

The External Operations Manager at Clorox plays a pivotal role in driving operational excellence across contract manufacturers within the Business Unit. This position is focused on two primary areas: Business Connectivity and Operational Excellence. The individual in this role will be responsible for ensuring that operational standards are met and that key performance indicators (KPIs) are achieved across the external manufacturing portfolio. This includes ensuring supply assurance and predictability by managing On Time in Full (OTIF) and Schedule Adherence to meet planning requirements. The role also involves ensuring that Critical to Quality attributes are understood and adhered to at all CoPack locations, as well as delivering required audits and maintaining inventory activities in compliance with SOX regulations. In addition to operational responsibilities, the External Operations Manager will actively participate in commercialization teams, serving as the “Make” lead, and will partner with Procurement, Production Services, and Quality on new site assessments. This role requires a collaborative approach, working closely with cross-functional teams to influence and implement improvements that ensure successful change management. The manager will also be responsible for monitoring and tracking operational performance metrics of suppliers and external manufacturers, escalating critical issues as necessary. The position also includes direct report responsibilities, which encompass task management, performance management, and talent development. The External Operations Manager will engage with external manufacturers to confirm production availability and lead various processes related to SAP master data management, cycle counts, and invoice approvals. This hybrid role requires a strong ability to lead, empower, and influence others while thriving in ambiguous situations, demonstrating Clorox's leadership model dimensions throughout their work.

Responsibilities

  • Drive operational excellence across contract manufacturers to deliver key KPIs for the Business Unit external manufacturing portfolio.
  • Ensure supply assurance and predictability through managing On Time in Full (OTIF) and Schedule Adherence to meet planning requirements.
  • Ensure Critical to Quality attributes and requirements are fully understood and adhered to at all CoPack locations.
  • Deliver SOX required audits, cycle counts, and inventory maintenance activities.
  • Leverage Clorox business and manufacturing best practices in handling contract sites.
  • Actively participate and serve as the 'Make' lead on commercialization teams.
  • Partner with Procurement, Production Services, and Quality on New Site Assessment Team, developing one technical voice on site selection.
  • Work in concert with Procurement to manage site relationship and performance from contract renegotiation through site closures.
  • Provide leadership and support in continuous improvement and strategic projects within the Business Unit and External Manufacturers.
  • Monitor and track operational performance metrics of suppliers and external manufacturers, incorporating input from Manufacturing, QA, and Technical Services.
  • Escalate critical or recurring issues to Procurement and GQA.
  • Perform Intelex shelf-life extension requests and variance reports.
  • Lead SAP master data work, including data pulls and troubleshooting for external manufacturers.
  • Lead the cycle count process with SAP reporting.
  • Engage in key external manufacturing and supply chain network forums to ensure business connectivity.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to influence and implement improvements for successful change management.
  • Ensure a unified external manufacturing voice with cross-functional partners.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in manufacturing, operations, planning, or logistics environments.
  • Experience in a specific Clorox Business Unit is preferred.
  • Ability to lead, empower, and influence others effectively.
  • Ability to thrive and provide direction in ambiguous situations.
  • Demonstrate Clorox Leadership Model dimensions in execution.
  • Self-directed with a focus on corporate and business unit objectives.
  • Strong proficiency in analysis, root cause identification, and problem-solving.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship skills.

  • Knowledge of SOX compliance and inventory management.
  • Working understanding of Quality systems and process capability.
  • Understanding of supply chain and manufacturing processes.
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Knowledge of SAP, ERP, and MRP systems.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
  • Qualified candidates will possess a four-year college degree (BS/BA in Supply Chain, Engineering, or Business preferred) or equivalent experience.
