The Global Head of EHS is responsible for the development and management of a comprehensive Environmental, Health and Safety program targeted at driving a strong safety culture across the company. To be successful in this highly visible and strategic role, the incumbent will need to collaborate closely with the Company's global manufacturing organization to ensure the EHS strategy aligns with the strategic goals of the global manufacturing network. Leveraging data, innovative ideas and best practices, the Global Head of EHS will challenge the organization to achieve top-level EHS performance. This individual is passionate about employee safety and operational excellence and has a proven track record of working within a global manufacturing organization to set clear goals, achieve alignment, close gaps in performance and deliver results. This position is responsible for driving beyond-compliance EHS initiatives and ensuring policies and programs are effectively deployed to deliver top quartile performance compared to industry standards, as well as fostering an interdependent culture of safety with an individual sense of responsibility from all employees and a proactive approach to safety globally.

Responsibilities

  • Owns the development, communication, and execution of the Company's overall EHS strategic plans and roadmap.
  • Develops and implements plans and programs to improve EHS performance, organizational effectiveness, process and system improvements and technology enhancements.
  • Monitors plan implementation, identifies risks and areas of non-compliance, and refines plans as needed to improve compliance and performance.
  • Ensures clear measures are in place throughout the organization that confirm compliance, minimize risk, and reduce incidents and exposures.
  • Ensures EHS strategies are inclusive of actions that foster the creation and maintenance of a safety-minded culture at all levels of the organization.
  • Works closely with Magnera Lead Team, EHS staff and Operations leadership to develop a global, data-driven EHS strategy that leverages industry best practices.
  • Identifies the top areas of focus from a risk and performance perspective, drawing from both lagging and leading indicators.
  • Provides visible leadership and strategic focus to Environment, Health, and Safety initiatives globally, and partners with senior leaders in raising awareness and correction of potential EHS issues.
  • Directs the development of company safety and environmental management systems in an effort to ensure regulatory compliance, eliminate workplace injuries and drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversees management and auditing of environmental, health and safety programs worldwide and ensure effective support and collaboration with all facilities.
  • Supports global sustainability initiatives with focus on environmental footprint reduction and EHS reporting requirements.
  • Leads global EHS staff, site leaders and others on leveraging best practices and recommendations for successful adoption in different global regions.
  • Provides leadership, expertise, and mentorship to local site EHS Leaders to ensure the development of appropriate EHS skills within the sites, consistency with managing EHS processes and procedures and compliance throughout the organization.
  • Supports development of training tools and programs that improve operations and front-line knowledge and skills related to safety leadership and performance.
  • Works with internal communications team to support campaigns that improve safety awareness throughout all functions and levels of the company.
  • Participates in capital project planning and approval process to ensure EHS risks and regulatory requirements are rigorously evaluated and prioritized.
  • Coordinates with Legal to assist with investigation of EHS compliance matters and supports due diligence projects, as needed.
  • Participate in due diligence activities for acquisitions, closures and divestitures, as it relates to environmental and safety liabilities and risks.
  • Responsible for ensuring monitoring and remediating environmental contamination from historic use.
  • Ensures that the company has a management system that effectively captures and facilitates execution and analysis for EHS related data.
  • Prepares and delivers EHS reports, disclosures, and communications for internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in EHS, Engineering or Science or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of EHS managerial experience, including 8 years of broad related experience in global environmental, health and safety management.
  • Operations management experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communications and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Experience in a related industry (nonwovens, paper and/or films manufacturing) is highly preferred.
