About the position

The Global Head of Product Legal at Snap Inc. will lead the Product Legal team, providing crucial legal guidance throughout the product development lifecycle. This role involves advising on compliance with global regulations, mitigating legal risks, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure innovative and legally sound product development. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the legal aspects of Snap's products, including those related to user-generated content, augmented reality, and generative AI.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and help develop the Product Legal team.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product, and Design teams to assess new products and technologies, providing proactive legal advice throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Drive and evolve the legal-compliance-by-design process, including privacy-by-design and safety-by-design.
  • Identify, analyze, and advise on evolving legal and safety risks and global regulatory requirements for new and existing products and technologies.
  • Work closely with legal colleagues to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Help scale the legal organization by developing innovative processes to support fast-moving teams.
  • Draft public-facing descriptions of new products and technologies.
  • Stay abreast of emerging legal trends and best practices in the tech industry, providing thought leadership within the legal team and the company.

Requirements

  • JD degree from an accredited university.
  • Active membership in at least one state bar.
  • 15+ years of experience practicing law.
  • 10+ years experience in product law.
  • Experience across a range of legal disciplines such as privacy, consumer protection, marketing, advertising, and IP.
  • Very strong understanding of the GDPR and other global privacy laws.
  • Experience working directly with engineers, product managers, and senior executives on product development.
  • Excellent legal and business judgment and strategic thinking.
  • Detail-oriented, business-friendly, and a team player.

Nice-to-haves

  • In-house counsel experience with a multinational corporation, preferably in the technology sector.
