About the position

The Research!America Global Health Research & Development Advocacy Internship supports efforts to advocate for U.S. federal policy action and mobilized resources for global health challenges, including poverty-related neglected diseases and emerging health threats. Interns will gain practical experience in navigating complex science policy and funding landscapes to advocate for global health research and development. This is a paid, temporary full-time internship to begin immediately, either in a remote work setting or hybrid from Research!America's Arlington, VA office. The Research!America office is located just steps from the Metro and VRE. Internships are typically three-month appointments (start and end dates are flexible).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and policy analysis on timely science policy issues, including federal appropriations, pandemic preparedness, private sector investment in neglected diseases, and incentivizing research and development for poverty-related diseases.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of high-impact advocacy initiatives, such as Capitol Hill briefings, international forums, and collaborative stakeholder roundtables.
  • Develop and refine science communication tools, including issue-based fact sheets, infographics, and calls to action, to engage and educate diverse audiences.
  • Participate in Congressional meetings, Research!America alliance discussions, and other networking opportunities, articulating the value of global health and scientific research to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Translate scientific data into accessible and persuasive narratives that support global health advocacy goals, fostering engagement across public and private sectors.
  • Other projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate students, recent graduates, graduate students, or PhD candidates with science, health, public policy, global or related degree or degree program are preferred.
  • Strong academic background, research and/or advocacy experience, organizational skills, and an interest in global health.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) is required.

Benefits

  • $20/hour for up to 40 hours/week.
  • Commuter benefit is available for interns working a hybrid schedule in our Arlington, VA office.
