About the position

The Global HR Director at Stanford University serves as the primary internal HR consultant for global HR matters, overseeing policies, procedures, and operational structures for employees working outside the United States. This role collaborates with various stakeholders to ensure that HR initiatives align with the needs of Stanford's global workforce, providing strategic support and guidance to HR leaders and hiring managers across multiple countries.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Centers of Expertise (COEs) and key stakeholders to advise on People Strategy, Employee Relations, Organizational Design, Talent Acquisition, and Coaching.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to global center leaders, influencing key priorities and supporting HR needs.
  • Develop relationships with center leadership to provide thought leadership on organizational and people-related strategies.
  • Create and lead data-driven initiatives to support global center needs.
  • Facilitate the hiring of workers through third-party payroll agencies when required by Stanford's legal status in a country.
  • Maintain compliant processes for all aspects of the employee life cycle, including job profiles, talent acquisition, and compensation advice.
  • Consult with unit leadership on employee relations issues and relevant laws based on the country of hire.
  • Coordinate employment legal counsel in countries where Stanford-affiliated staff are employed.
  • Work on various HR initiatives and programs in partnership with University Human Resources and local HR partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience as an HR business partner working with international locations is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience as a consultant and advisor in at least four HR areas, including employee relations, labor law, compensation, staffing, training, and organizational development.
  • Understanding of global professional and academic activity frameworks, including legal entities, taxation, and social welfare systems.
  • Ability to address diverse audiences with varied knowledge of HR programs, from employees to senior management.
  • Knowledge of employment compliance and regulatory environments, including statutory employment requirements and immigration practices.
  • Skilled in project management and able to manage multiple deliverables and deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence diverse audiences.
  • Ability to operate independently and escalate issues when necessary.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency with business applications like Microsoft Office Suite and HR information systems.
