About the position

The Equity Research Analyst in the Metals and Mining sector at Goldman Sachs is responsible for conducting in-depth research and analysis to support investment strategies. This role involves building industry knowledge, writing reports, updating financial models, managing data infrastructure, and collaborating with team members to provide actionable insights. The position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in equity research while contributing to the development of investment ideas.

Responsibilities

  • Build strong industry knowledge of the Metals and Mining sector
  • Write reports/notes on companies under coverage and thematic industry ideas
  • Update and build sophisticated financial models and work with large data sets
  • Manage the team's data infrastructure, including industry and company specific files
  • Interpret data and perform analysis on company, market, economic and technology trends
  • Collaborate with other business unit team members to share insights, exchange ideas, and benchmark best practices
  • Communicate with the equities sales force and traders, clients and company managements

Requirements

  • 2+ years of research experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to perform financial statement, business and valuation analysis
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and creative skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
  • Passion for financial markets and a desire to build a career in equity research

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong understanding of equity research
  • Demonstrated interest or previous experience in the Metals and Mining, Energy or Natural Resources sector
  • Proficiency in financial databases such as FactSet or Bloomberg
  • Comfortable taking initiative and being resourceful/entrepreneurial
  • Demonstrated ability to think laterally and exercise good judgment
  • Ability to multi-task and work with numerous teams
  • Some, if not all, of the following FINRA certifications: SIE, 7, 86, or 87
