About the position

The Global Operations Director at Amphenol Communications Solutions is responsible for overseeing and enhancing manufacturing operations across all global sites. This role is crucial for scaling operations, ensuring strategic alignment with corporate objectives, and driving growth initiatives, including the establishment of new manufacturing sites. The director will elevate operational standards, achieve cost efficiency, and expand the global market presence of Amphenol Cable Backplane Systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and execution of new product introductions, ensuring a smooth transition to full-scale production while meeting cost targets and customer expectations.
  • Direct and coordinate operations across plants globally.
  • Develop and implement consistent operational procedures and practices globally, including manufacturing processes, safety protocols, and quality control measures.
  • Oversee the distribution of resources (human, capital, and materials).
  • Advocate for and implement environmental, health, and safety (EHS) best practices across all sites to reduce workplace injuries and maximize environmental impact.
  • Develop and oversee initiatives aimed at promoting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Serve as the point of escalation for critical operational issues.
  • Lead the response to crises such as supply chain disruptions, equipment failure, and compliance issues, ensuring that impacts are minimized.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive 3-year operational plan for the business unit, aligning with the organization's long-term strategic objectives.
  • Lead strategic initiatives such as the expansion of existing facilities, the establishment of new sites, and capital investments.
  • Oversee project planning, budgeting, and execution.
  • Develop and execute an overall global multi-site capacity strategy that supports financial, technical, and schedule objectives while supporting customer requirements.
  • Forecast demand for resources based on requirements and organizational objectives.
  • Monitor global resource utilization and identify opportunities to optimize capacity.
  • Oversee the creation and management of budgets for all operations globally, ensuring that each site operates within budget.
  • Allocate resources effectively and manage P&L statements for all global sites.
  • Manage revenue and expenses to ensure profitability and implement cost control measures to enhance profitability.
  • Identify financial risks and implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics that track efficiency, productivity, quality, and on-time delivery.
  • Foster a culture of punctuality and reliability across all operational sites.
  • Use data-driven insights to identify trends, address issues, and continuously improve processes to enhance on-time delivery rates.
  • Regularly review KPI performance with plant managers and Ops leaders, setting clear expectations and providing support where needed to achieve targets.
  • Implement a system for monitoring the performance of each site against set operational and financial targets.
  • Collect, analyze and report on data related to productivity, efficiency, cost, and quality.
  • Prepare and deliver reports to leadership related to challenges, opportunities, and recommendations for strategic decision making.
  • Work across functional teams to ensure requirements are understood and solutions are developed effectively.
  • Partner closely with Operations Leaders, Program Managers, and peer engineering teams to drive vision and deliver customer needs.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration across sites to foster a culture of collaboration and promote the sharing of best practices.
  • Develop and maintain quality standards aligned to international best practices and local requirements.
  • Ensure standards are implemented consistently to maintain product integrity and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of quality control systems that monitor the output from every stage in the manufacturing process.
  • Manage the process for acquiring and maintaining ISO certification and ensure ongoing compliance with certification requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with customer audits and global agency standards across all locations.
  • Implement regular training and audits to maintain high compliance levels.
  • Implement a robust supplier quality management system to ensure all materials and components meet predefined quality standards.
  • Champion customer service excellence by ensuring on-time delivery and responsiveness to customer needs across all operations.
  • Maintain visibility of end customer adoption of next generation interconnect products and advise internal teams on how to support end customer goals.
  • Develop and maintain communication channels to keep stakeholders informed about progress, changes, and decisions.
  • Gather feedback from stakeholders with respect to performance, outcomes, and areas for improvement.
  • Lead and inspire a team of operations directors and program managers at multiple global sites, setting a vision for operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Establish clear, measurable individual and team development goals aligned to organizational goals.
  • Evaluate the performance of Operations leaders teams and provide continuous feedback.
  • Champion continuous learning and development across all levels of the operations team.
  • Foster a results-oriented environment by providing direct oversight and support to factory managers in achieving high performance targets.
  • Promote a culture of diversity and inclusion within the operations team.

Requirements

  • Minimum 15 years in manufacturing management with rich knowledge of electronic or mechanical parts, preferably within telecom or the industrial manufacturing industry.
  • University degrees in Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Science or Engineering Management.
  • Proven track record of building manufacturing organizations.
  • Possesses knowledge of ISO 9001 & 14001 and common manufacturing improvement methodologies such as 5s, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing.
  • Experience in improving operational effectiveness and managing diverse groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to document requirements.
  • Strong analytics and data analysis skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and deal with ambiguity effectively while being a strong teammate.
  • Ability to travel 40-50%.
