About the position

The Global Payroll Specialist at Lids Sports Group is responsible for overseeing day-to-day payroll operations, supporting both new and existing pay programs, and driving process improvements within the international payroll resources team. This role is crucial for the company's international expansion and requires a strong analytical mindset and customer-focused approach. The Specialist will collaborate closely with HR and Payroll professionals to ensure accurate payroll processing across multiple countries.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates payroll processing for several countries including the UK, Germany, France, Australia, and the Netherlands.
  • Maintains payroll information; collects, calculates, and enters data; distributes checks; processes retroactive pays; and performs front-end edits.
  • Partners with a global payroll provider to implement payroll setups for new countries.
  • Coordinates with the finance team and payroll provider for disbursements of funds for employees, benefit providers, taxes, and other payments.
  • Follows up with Store Managers regarding incomplete or inaccurate paperwork/inputs.
  • Processes statutory payments for European countries.
  • Identifies and implements payroll process improvements and best practices to enhance customer service and reduce payroll errors.
  • Monitors payroll-related transactions for compliance with policies and maintains knowledge of payroll-related rules and laws.
  • Reconciles errors and maintains payroll records; audits payroll data changes for validity and accuracy.
  • Drives resolution for technical or system payroll issues and collaborates with IT to resolve errors.
  • Develops system reporting to provide relevant data and analyses for business decisions.
  • Communicates payroll policies and procedures to ensure smooth operations.
  • Resolves payroll inquiries and processes adjustments as necessary.
  • Leads training for payroll staff.
  • Oversees partnerships that facilitate payroll processes, including garnishment administration and benefits administration.
  • Manages preparation of relevant payroll reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of payroll experience with payroll and time and attendance systems.
  • 5+ years of international multi-country payroll experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, and lookups.
  • Experience with Germany and France payroll is required.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, troubleshooting, and problem-resolution skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Ability to grow knowledge to support further payrolls as the business expands in Europe.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and discretion with confidential information.
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of German, Dutch, or French is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Good understanding of basic accounting principles and experience with journal entries and reconciliations.
