About the position

This position is crucial for overseeing and leading the technical aspects of our chemical plant operations, particularly focusing on control systems. The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills in chemical plant controls, including DCS (Distributed Control Systems), PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and field instrumentation. This role requires the ability to act as the project technical lead on major control projects globally, which includes DCS upgrades, plant expansions, and providing on-site startup support. The ideal candidate will be comfortable functioning in diverse cultural environments and will need to be flexible with their schedule to accommodate interactions with team members across different time zones. A strong focus on Process Safety is essential, with knowledge of SIL (Safety Integrity Level) ratings, PHAs (Process Hazard Analyses), and Safety Systems being critical to the role. The position involves developing technological ideas and guiding them to fruition, leading the planning and implementation of control systems for large projects such as new chemical plants and DCS upgrades. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for identifying changes and improvements in industry requirements, products, and processes, including advanced control solutions and process optimization. Frequent interaction with internal personnel across various regions, as well as external contractors and representatives, will be necessary. The role includes conducting briefings and participating in technical meetings regarding specific operations, and leading activities such as process control architecture, factory acceptance testing, and field testing. Financial accountability is also a key aspect, as the candidate will provide financial and technical information on projects to assist the organization in making prioritization and portfolio decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and implementation of controls portions of large projects such as new chemical plants and DCS upgrades.
  • Function as the project technical lead on major control projects globally for DCS upgrades, plant expansions, and on-site startup support.
  • Identify changes and improvements in industry requirements, products, and processes including advanced control solutions and process optimization.
  • Develop technological ideas and guide their development into a final product.
  • Conduct briefings and participate in technical meetings for internal management and external representatives concerning specific operations.
  • Lead activities such as process control architecture, factory acceptance testing, and field testing.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in a related field.
  • DCS Programming and System Design Experience.
  • Field instrumentation experience (automated valves, transmitters, etc.).
  • Knowledge of ISA & NEC Design Concepts.
  • Familiarity with Ladder, Function Block, and Structured Text Programming concepts.
  • Experience in Process Safety Management (PSM).
  • Experience in Process Hazards Analysis (PHA).
  • Batch Programming experience.
  • Advanced Process Control experience.
  • Familiarity with DCS, PLC, and Safety Systems, including Triconex, Tristation 1131, Foxboro I/A DCS, Wonderware HMI, Honeywell TDC3000 DCS, Modicon PLC's, and Allen Bradley PLC's.
