About the position

The Global Product Manager is a key member of the Global Respiratory business unit at Olympus, a leading medical technology company dedicated to improving people's lives for over a century. This role is pivotal in supporting innovation and product development initiatives aimed at driving future portfolio growth within Olympus' Lung Cancer portfolio. The Global Product Manager will be responsible for identifying, accessing, and prioritizing global market opportunities, technologies, and geographic expansion opportunities. This includes a thorough understanding of market and technology needs, competitive analysis, and assessing the viability of new business opportunities, whether organic, inorganic, or through market development. The ideal candidate will possess experience in conducting voice of customer and primary market research, enabling them to develop a deep understanding of customer needs. Collaboration is essential, as this individual will work closely with team members across Olympus to execute initiatives and provide recommendations on future projects and investments. The role is designed for someone who can pivot between various responsibilities, applying broad knowledge regarding customer needs, the value chain, market structure, and medical solution offerings. A strong emphasis is placed on creative problem-solving and the ability to generate compelling investment stories and business plans, supported by a data-driven approach and expert communication skills. In this position, the Global Product Manager will develop intimacy with the markets, competitors, and solutions related to the Respiratory business unit's Lung Cancer business. This will involve conducting market research, engaging with healthcare professionals (HCPs), attending conventions, and visiting customers. The role also requires partnering with global product management teams, market intelligence, corporate and business unit strategy functions, medical affairs, research and development, and commercial organizations to support business case assessments. The Global Product Manager will help identify opportunities for new technologies and market development that align with the Respiratory strategy, assess their viability, and develop business cases for their development. Additionally, the role involves conducting analysis of the Respiratory portfolio to prioritize investments and ensure alignment with the business unit strategy, driving market opportunities to completion and presenting key findings and recommendations to leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Develop intimacy with the markets, competitors, and solutions relating to the Respiratory business unit's Lung Cancer business by conducting market research, engaging with HCPs, attending conventions, and visiting customers.
  • Partner with global product management teams, global market intelligence, corporate and business unit strategy functions, medical affairs, research and development, and commercial organizations to support business case assessments.
  • Help identify opportunities for new technologies and market development opportunities that support the Respiratory strategy; assess viability of such opportunities and develop business cases for their development.
  • Support innovation initiatives and act as global marketing core team member on assigned projects.
  • Conduct analysis of the Respiratory portfolio and help prioritize organic, inorganic, clinical, and market development investments; ensure those investments are aligned with the Respiratory business unit strategy.
  • Drive market opportunities assessment to completion and present key findings and recommendations to leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in science, engineering, finance, marketing, healthcare, or related field is required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience within the healthcare space (medical devices, diagnostics, corporate strategy, upstream marketing, downstream marketing, project management, analytics, R&D).
  • Strong clinical competency and analytical skills required.
  • Ability to work overtime, including evenings and weekends from home, on occasion.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 15-25% monthly to visit customers, Olympus business sites, and attend trade shows and events.

Nice-to-haves

  • MBA degree in business analytics strongly preferred.
  • Respiratory product experience is viewed as helpful.
  • Experience identifying unmet needs, creating concepts, and implementing solutions following the biodesign innovation process for health technology is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to lead project teams.
  • Experienced in designing and executing voice of customer research.
  • Self-motivated individual with track record of establishing and executing on goals and successfully leading cross-functional teams for the same.
  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Proven track record identifying and developing new business opportunities.
  • Superior writing, composition, English grammar skills a must.
  • Well-developed verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams across the global in a large, multi-national matrixed organization.
  • A proven record of consistently following through on commitments. Maintains and communicates realistic schedules and meets or beats deadlines.
  • Experience developing pricing and market models, forecasts, strategies, and programs and integrating their outputs into business plans that achieve the envisioned results.
  • Knowledge of the Company products and its competitive landscape such as device regulations that govern commercial activity.
  • Proven problem solving and project management skills in a product management role.
