About the position

The Global Strategic Sourcing and Procurement Senior Manager at AMETEK, Inc. will play a pivotal role in planning, organizing, and directing the supply chain activities of the Atlas business unit. This position is responsible for overseeing all strategic sourcing activities related to the procurement of commodities, ensuring that processes are efficient from intent through delivery. The manager will also coordinate and monitor production activities for the manufacturing team, focusing on optimizing inventory control processes to enhance operational efficiency. In this role, the manager will develop organizational strategies, practices, processes, and metrics that will establish a world-class purchasing and production planning organization. A key responsibility will be to lead, hire, develop, and enable the Procurement Organization to meet strategic objectives within a continuous improvement framework. The manager will analyze and maintain a consolidated supplier base to fulfill current and future material and service needs, while managing all facets of procurement activities, including vendor evaluations and site audits. The position requires a deep understanding of spending trends, cost drivers, and market factors to implement effective sourcing strategies. The manager will develop performance metrics, including external benchmarks, to facilitate data-driven decision-making and ensure alignment with corporate objectives. Additionally, the role involves accountability for material spend and cost reduction, supplier performance, and inventory management, while ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards. Continuous improvement will be a core focus, utilizing tools such as Lean Six Sigma to enhance procurement processes. The manager will also create and manage business unit processes related to supplier contracts and qualifications, staying informed about best practices and market dynamics relevant to the function.

Responsibilities

  • Develop organizational strategy, practices, processes, and metrics for a world-class purchasing and production planning organization.
  • Lead, hire, develop, and enable the Procurement Organization to achieve strategic objectives in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Analyze and maintain a consolidated supplier base to meet current and future needs of purchased materials and services.
  • Manage all facets of procurement activities including vendor evaluations, site audits, and continuous improvement processes for suppliers.
  • Monitor key spending trends, cost drivers, and market factors to implement appropriate sourcing strategies.
  • Develop metrics to monitor performance and support data-driven decision making.
  • Ensure metrics and performance measurements align with corporate objectives and performance indicators.
  • Accountable for material spend/cost reduction, supplier performance, and inventory management.
  • Collaborate with other functions to support strategic goals for sourcing materials, equipment, and services.
  • Ensure ethical principles and standards of purchasing practices are upheld.
  • Develop, monitor, and control departmental operating and capital budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality system requirements in purchasing practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement in procurement processes using Lean Six Sigma tools.
  • Create/manage processes around supplier contracts, supplier qualification, and engineering change approval.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement, materials management, or production planning in an equipment or heavy industry environment.
  • Experience in a global, multi-site organization is preferred.
  • Sourcing/Procurement/Quality certification such as CPM, CPIM, CIRM, CQE preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills including benchmarking, data collection, and trend analysis.
  • Experience in continuous process and productivity improvement with Six Sigma and Lean initiatives.
  • Demonstrated success managing global spend in excess of $20M.
  • History of developing programs to deliver annual material savings above inflation.
  • Experience in leading supply chain development and supplier negotiations.
  • Proven track record in change management and business process re-engineering.
  • Excellent leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of ERP systems and their operation.
