About the position

The Global Technical Sales Manager in the Specialty Segment is a pivotal role within the commercial organization, focusing on the technical aspects of sales. This position is responsible for managing technical sales activities for global product lines and technology packages, collaborating with sales teams, and building strong customer relationships. The role emphasizes technology training, market insights analysis, and supporting strategic sales growth initiatives, all while working within a collaborative team-based selling model.

Responsibilities

  • Support sales activities by assessing customer technology needs and aligning with engineering standards.
  • Advocate, coach, and train for the segment and product line.
  • Assist in proposal development and support sales growth opportunities in a team selling approach.
  • Engage in face-to-face interactions with customers to provide technical input.
  • Develop relationships within customer organizations, focusing on Corporate Engineering and Plant Operations.
  • Support conference strategies, including technical presentations and booth support.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of industry trends and technical developments.
  • Identify opportunities and advise on available technology or service solutions.
  • Articulate Crown's technology offerings and advantages clearly.
  • Coordinate data and recommendations to Sales and Sales Operations.
  • Resolve customer issues with products, projects, and services as needed.
  • Collaborate with Global Segment Commercial Lead and Engineering to develop cohesive global product offerings.
  • Set product offering strategy in conjunction with Segment lead and Engineering Managers.
  • Develop testing protocols for customer piloting work as required.
  • Manage standard product line sales tool-kits and assist in marketing collateral development.
  • Support technology discussions to close deals efficiently and professionally.
  • Deliver against sales goals by supporting Sales, Sales Support, and Aftermarket teams.
  • Facilitate cross-functional and global collaboration for Aftermarket commercial support.
  • Support new innovation launches with technical support and training.
  • Contribute to customer field reports after visits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical or mechanical engineering.
  • 10+ years of Engineering or Operations experience in the Oilseeds complex, preferably in Oilseeds Crushing, Protein Concentrates, Vegetable Oil Refining, Palm Processing, Biodiesel, or Oleo-chemical business.
  • Demonstrated sales support experience.
  • Strong competitive desire to succeed and win.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Outcome-focused with the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers, and vendors.
  • Responsive to internal and external customer inquiries.
  • Well-developed presentation skills.
  • Customer relationship management (CRM) experience is a plus.
  • Process Modeling experience with ChemCad or Aspen modeling is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, TEAMS, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of a second language (European or Asian) is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to travel internationally and domestically.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience in customer relationship management (CRM).
  • Process modeling experience with ChemCad or Aspen modeling.
