About the position

The General Merchandise Expert at Target plays a crucial role in ensuring a consistent and welcoming shopping experience for guests. This position involves managing various operational tasks related to product availability, pricing, and inventory accuracy, while also providing exceptional customer service. The role is dynamic, requiring adaptability and teamwork to meet the needs of guests and support business priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming experience by authentically greeting all guests.
  • Observe to quickly understand whether a guest needs assistance or wants to interact.
  • Engage with guests in a genuine way, asking questions to better understand their specific needs.
  • Be knowledgeable about the tools, products, and services available in the store to solve issues for guests.
  • Ensure sales floor is zoned, in stock, and accurately signed for guests.
  • Review sales trends to prioritize daily workload based on business and guest needs.
  • Execute revisions, sales plans, and planograms for all GM categories.
  • Assist non-GM areas of the store with transition sets and In Store Marketing (ISM).
  • Conduct weekly price change workload for all GM categories.
  • Complete Radio Frequency ID (RFID) scans in GM areas to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Accurately execute all backroom fills and backstock product from GM categories efficiently.
  • Process all inbound deliveries using the Receive application to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Maintain backroom and fixture room organization and follow equipment guidelines.
  • Support guest services such as back-up cashier, order pick up (OPU), and Drive up (DU).

  • Skill in resolving guest questions quickly on the spot.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow multi-step processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in retail business fundamentals including department sales trends and inventory management.
  • Ability to handle cash register operations accurately.
  • Physical capability to climb up and down ladders and lift or move merchandise up to 40 pounds.
