About the position

The Groundman position at Chain Electric Company is an entry-level role focused on supporting Linemen in power line construction, repair, maintenance, and storm restoration. The Groundman is responsible for organizing and preparing vehicles with the necessary tools and materials, ensuring that jobs are completed smoothly and safely. This role requires working under close supervision and involves various physical tasks in potentially harsh weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and prepares vehicles with the correct tools and materials.
• Assists the Lineman in power line construction, repair, maintenance, and storm restoration.
• Ensures trucks are properly maintained and stocked with commonly used materials.
• Prepares equipment and worksite for effective completion of assignments.
• Anticipates the needs of the crew by preparing tools and equipment for Lineman/crew members.
• Verifies proper grounding of the truck.
• Safely controls traffic around work zones.
• Digs ditches or trenches, backfills excavations, and compacts and levels earth to grade specifications.
• Loads, unloads, or identifies building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them as needed.
• Lubricates, cleans, or repairs machinery, equipment, or tools.
• Assists in performing maintenance as needed.
• Operates a forklift and other tools safely.
• Assists Lineman in framing poles on the ground.
• Washes and maintains equipment in proper working order.
• Drives and operates various Chain vehicles.
• Keeps work areas clean and organized, picking up scrap wire and discarded materials.
• Performs any and all other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Ability to travel 100% of the time.
• Available to work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Possess a valid CDL-A Drivers license due to business needs.
• Have own hand tools.
• Good driving record.
• Ability to handle physically demanding construction duties in harsh weather conditions.
• Ability to read and follow instructions.
• Ability to travel at a moment's notice.
• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
• Ability to hear from a long distance.
• Must be able to see long distances and differentiate between colors, with clear depth perception and peripheral vision.
