The GMS Application Engineer-Grid provides support for Energy Management Systems (EMS) power systems applications portfolio such as Power Flow, State Estimator, Contingency Analysis, Load Frequency Control, Dynamic Stability Analysis, Load Forecasting, and Operator Training Simulator (OTS). This position involves active participation in the design, development, testing, validation, and implementation of modifications and enhancements to EMS applications. The role requires a seasoned professional with an in-depth understanding of the area of specialization, capable of providing recommendations regarding issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices. The engineer will have wide latitude for decisions within assignments, programs, and projects, impacting generally limited to the project or department. The engineer will act as a resource to advise and may lead the work of lower-level professionals and support employees, representing the department on projects and potentially performing in a project leadership role. The position is structured into levels, with responsibilities increasing from Level 1, where the engineer works under the direction of a senior engineer, to Senior and Lead levels, where the engineer serves as a technical Subject Matter Expert and leads EMS portfolio projects from incubation to go-live. This role also includes being a member of the 24/7 EMS Applications Engineering support on-call team, troubleshooting EMS applications and system issues, coordinating application setup and testing with various stakeholders, and maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing EMS and OTS applications and interfaces. The engineer will also participate in multifunctional teams to perform studies and assist in developing tools, processes, and procedures that enhance system reliability and departmental efficiencies.
