About the position

SS&C is seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer to join our team in Waltham, MA, to support our innovative investment operations platform, Aloha. This platform is designed to provide extensive asset class and functional support across the front, middle, and back office, built natively for the cloud with advanced technology. As a DevOps Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design, implementation, and improvement of Kubernetes clusters as software services running in SSNC's private cloud. You will lead discussions on cloud platform system design and architectural decisions, ensuring that our infrastructure applications support automation and maintenance of highly available Kubernetes clusters and their tenants. In this role, you will be responsible for integrating application monitoring and alerting for applications running in Kubernetes clusters. You will also lead teams to enhance our Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery systems, working closely with the Test Automation, Build & Release, and Security Teams to deploy and identify cybersecurity measures. Your keen eye for diagnosis, troubleshooting, and debugging of enterprise, distributed, horizontally scalable, messaging-based cloud applications will be essential to the success of our operations. Responsibilities

  • Design, implementation, and improvement of Kubernetes clusters as software services running in SSNC private cloud.
  • Lead discussions on cloud platform system design and architectural decisions.
  • Build infrastructure applications that support automation and maintenance of highly available Kubernetes clusters and their tenants.
  • Integrate application monitoring and alerting for applications running in Kubernetes clusters.
  • Lead teams to enhance Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery systems.
  • Work closely with the Test Automation, Build & Release, and Security Teams to ensure deployment and identification of cybersecurity measures, and collaborate on test improvement opportunities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience with containerization technologies and Kubernetes orchestration and management.
  • 5+ years of Kubernetes deployment and manifest management experience with Helm or similar tools.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience with any shell (bash, ksh, csh) scripting skills.
  • 7+ years of experience with one of the programming languages: JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Golang, Java or C++.
  • Experience with Terraform for VM provisioning and Ansible/SALT or similar for configuration management.
  • Monitoring and Alerting skills with Prometheus, Grafana and related plug-ins.
  • NoSQL/MongoDB/Cassandra experience in addition to traditional relational DB/SQL Server/mySQL.
  • Git/GitHub and similar version control tooling.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to work independently from teams across different time zones.
  • CNCF Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) would be a significant advantage.
  • Familiarity with standard IT security practices (e.g. TLS certificates, key management, oAuth, LDAP etc).
  • Strong computer science fundamentals with systems knowledge.
  • Proficiency with data structures, algorithmic complexity and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to learn about the developing cloud native components and technologies.
