About the position

Canonical is seeking an experienced Golang Engineering Manager to lead the development of identity and access management (IAM) solutions across its product suite. This role involves overseeing a high-performance engineering team, defining technical visions, and ensuring the delivery of secure and efficient software solutions. The manager will engage with open-source projects and internal teams to enhance Canonical's identity management capabilities, focusing on distributed systems operations and software design.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a high-performance software engineering team.
• Define the technical vision for identity and access management products.
• Manage the team backlog and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Review code and provide insightful feedback to team members.
• Coach and mentor junior engineers in software development best practices.
• Design and implement complex, distributed systems.
• Write high-quality code and tests, ensuring software reliability.
• Document software designs and processes for clarity and future reference.
• Troubleshoot issues and provide solutions in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with product management to align engineering efforts with business goals.
• Participate in open-source community events, webinars, and conferences.

Requirements

• Proven experience in hiring and leading software engineering teams.
• Expertise in Python and Go programming languages.
• Ability to design and implement complex distributed systems.
• Experience with container technology and Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of software and infrastructure security and performance.
• Experience in designing and operating large-scale distributed systems.
