About the position

The Heavy Equipment Operator at Barrick Gold is responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery, including excavators, dozers, and graders, within the Mining and Reclamation department. This role emphasizes safety, effective equipment operation, and maintenance, contributing to the company's commitment to a safe work environment and sustainable practices.

Responsibilities

• Safely and effectively use heavy equipment to complete tasks as assigned
• Perform daily safety and maintenance checks on equipment and comply with all safety rules and procedures
• Perform or assist in mechanical repairs on heavy equipment
• Track scheduled maintenance of equipment and notify the supervisor if maintenance is past due
• Fill out performance records to report problems with equipment
• Clean, lubricate, and perform regular safety checks on equipment
• Train new team members in the safe operation of heavy equipment and fill out training checklists
• Ensure sites are kept clean and safe
• Work a rotating schedule of nights and days as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma
• Prior experience operating similar heavy equipment
• Diesel mechanic degree or higher education preferred
• Able to read, write, and possess basic math and science skills to complete daily reporting requirements
• Reliable, consistent work history
• Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
• Ability to follow orders, especially under pressure
• Ability to work to strict deadlines and work independently
• A positive outlook and a willingness to learn.
