About The Position

The Golf Course Superintendent at Sharon Woods Golf Course is responsible for overseeing the daily maintenance and care of the golf course, including turf, landscaping, irrigation, and facilities. This role involves supervising staff, managing budgets, ensuring safety, and collaborating with the Golf General Manager to maintain high standards of quality and performance. The position requires a combination of technical knowledge in turf management and leadership skills to effectively manage a team and maintain the golf course's operational excellence.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or GED and associate degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Arboriculture, Horticulture, Botany or related program.
  • Five years' work experience which evidences a comprehensive knowledge of park and golf course management.
  • Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.
  • State Motor Vehicle Operator's License that meets GPHC current carrier guidelines.
  • State Pesticide Application License within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the completion of daily maintenance and care of golf course turf, landscaping, irrigation, equipment, and facilities within assigned location(s).
  • Coordinate and apply all turf grass related chemicals, herbicides, pesticides, fertilizer, and fungicides.
  • Directly supervise full-time and part-time staff to accomplish assigned tasks; carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Great Parks' policies and applicable laws.
  • Participate in and make recommendations pertaining to the selection and discipline of employees, and other personnel decisions in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Plan and delegate work assignments, train employees, and provide guidance as needed.
  • Resolve work issues and ensure compliance with Great Parks' policy and performance standards.
  • Provide leadership, direction, supervision, and guidance to staff to promote positive employee morale and maximize work performance.
  • Schedule and delegate assignments and ensure work complies with quality standards, timeframes, and specifications.
  • Monitor and control expenditures both direct and indirect.
  • Prepare and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly records and reports.
  • Approve purchasing card expenditures and provide input into operating budget review and development.
  • Manage payroll budget and maintenance supply budget.
  • Identify and prioritize capital improvement needs and assist in the purchase of capital equipment and turf chemicals.
  • Work closely with the Golf General Manager to establish work priorities and needs and determine project goals, time frames, and standards.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments, leadership, peers, and subordinates; attend and participate in meetings; complete required training.
  • Inspect work in progress and ensure work quality meets established standards.
  • Analyze and resolve difficult problems and provide direction as necessary.
  • Oversee independent contractors in the completion of various projects.
  • Assume responsibility for safety of employees in operation of equipment and performing other work tasks.
  • Train employees on safe and proper work methods and equipment.
  • Monitor safety records and create safety programs.
  • Ensure golf course conditions and infrastructure are safe for park guests.
  • Ensure proper maintenance, servicing, safety, and function of golf equipment, vehicles, and tools.
  • Work cooperatively with assigned Conservation & Parks mechanic and various third-party repair services.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, and trade shows.
  • Perform job duties in accordance with Great Parks of Hamilton County's policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of confidential and sensitive information.
  • Exhibit regular and punctual attendance, and work outside of normal schedule as required.
