About the position

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a part-time developer responsible for enhancing our employee database and timekeeping system. This role is crucial in ensuring that all part-time staff are paid accurately and on time. The successful candidate will work closely with a small team to improve and maintain the Google Workspace that tracks hiring status, hours worked, and supervisor approvals. The position requires a blend of technical skills and strong interpersonal abilities, as you will be interacting with users and administrators to understand their needs and present solutions effectively. In this role, you will be responsible for coding, testing, and delivering solutions by agreed-upon deadlines. You will troubleshoot issues and errors within the employee database and timekeeping system, develop new functionalities to enhance system performance, and contribute to additional projects as needed. The ideal candidate will have experience with high-level programming languages and a proven track record of problem-solving in unique situations. This position offers the flexibility of remote work, allowing you to set your own schedule while averaging 10-15 hours per week, with a maximum of 18.5 hours per week. Occasional in-person meetings at our Lakeside Street office will be required, and the start date for this position is September 3, 2024.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting issues and errors with the employee database and timekeeping system.
  • Developing new functionality to improve system performance.
  • Interacting with users and administrators to understand their needs and present solutions.
  • Coding, testing, and delivering solutions by agreed-upon deadlines.
  • Contributing to additional projects in other areas as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience working with a high-level programming language such as Python or Java.
  • Exemplary history of problem solving in unique situations.
  • Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Willingness and ability to travel locally, on occasion, to Madison, WI.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with Javascript.
  • Experience working with Google Scripts.
