About the position

The Government Account Representative (GAR) is an outside sales role focused on developing relationships and achieving profitable revenue growth within assigned government accounts. The GAR will work closely with established sales and service teams to grow sales among a diverse range of large local government, higher education, primary education, and federal customers. This position requires making 4-6 quality, revenue-generating calls per day and is compensated based on sales targets and account management tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an understanding of government contracts.
  • Determine and prepare the appropriate 'Grainger Value Proposition' for each account.
  • Create a territory plan that optimizes call routes and maximizes time in the field.
  • Maintain account and customer contact and record follow-up details in Grainger's CRM (Salesforce).
  • Grow sales with each account using various communication channels.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience preferred
  • No prior sales or relationship building experience required
  • Ability to travel and have occasional overnights (dependent on territory)
  • A valid driver's license
