About the position

The Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA) is seeking a full-time Government Affairs Specialist to conduct research and analysis of administrative rules, legislation, and public policy. This role involves providing administrative support to the Government Affairs department and Executive Leadership Team, preparing reports, facilitating communication, and assisting in legislative analysis and communications. The position is integral to developing strategies and building relationships with stakeholders in the legislative process.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts research on complex policy issues and regulatory structures to identify potential changes affecting the agency mission.
  • Interprets and advises agency personnel on departmental rules, regulations, and laws governing the operation of the agency, division, or department program.
  • Prepares administrative, statistical, and/or fiscal documents pertaining to departmental activity for the Executive Leadership Team.
  • Monitors activity at the state Capitol to assist in the development of strategy, including meeting with legislators and building relationships with stakeholders.
  • Plans, develops, and conducts training, seminars, meetings, or clinics as required; represents the agency at meetings, seminars, and conferences.
  • Supports the OMMA Executive Advisory Council, including meeting notices and administrative support during meetings.
  • Reviews proposed legislation and recommends changes; may act as legislative liaison.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and one year of professional or technical administrative experience in business or public administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of organization and management methods, public administration, agency policies and procedures, and the legislative process.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, communicate effectively, and exercise good judgment in decision-making.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in grant or contract program requirements.
  • Familiarity with federal and state laws and regulations relating to administration of assigned programs.
