About the position

The Government Operations Consultant II (Natural Resource Specialist) at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection is responsible for providing project status and budget tracking support for natural and cultural resource management within the Division of Recreation and Parks. This role involves facilitating resource management activities, conducting evaluations, and ensuring the effective restoration and management of Florida's natural resources.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate and develop proposals, scope of services, reports, solicitations, and contracts for resource management activities.
• Perform technical analysis for evaluation and planning of resource management projects.
• Coordinate the tracking of the statewide Resource Management budget and ensure funds are spent in accordance with Division goals.
• Conduct system-wide and park-specific resource management evaluations of state park lands.
• Identify needs for natural resource restoration/management actions and develop processes to implement such actions.
• Provide technical assistance/mentoring with planning, logistics, and implementation of complex projects.
• Participate in field work to support resource management duties.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, or related physical or natural sciences.
• Three years of verifiable related experience in environmental protection, natural resource management, or natural sciences.
• Knowledge of terminology, principles, and techniques used in managing natural communities of Florida.
• Skills in Microsoft Office, GIS, GPS, contract/project management, and technical writing.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and analyze scientific data.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with hydrological restoration and rare species management.
• Familiarity with invasive species control techniques.
