About the position

The Government Operations Consultant III is in the Department of Commerce, Office of Long-Term Resiliency (OLTR). This position performs communications and outreach responsibilities as it relates to OLTR and its many disaster resiliency programs and initiatives. The Office of Long-Term Resiliency (OLTR) supports communities following disasters by addressing long-term recovery needs for housing, infrastructure, and economic development. FloridaCommerce is the governor-designated state authority responsible for administering all United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) long-term recovery funds awarded to the state. The state of Florida has been allocated federal funding to support long-term disaster recovery through the Community Development Block Grant - Disaster Recovery Program (CDBG-DR). CDBG-DR funding is designed to address housing, infrastructure, economic development, and mitigation needs that remain after other assistance has been exhausted, including federal assistance as well as private insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Media Relations: Assist Florida Commerce Office of Communications with responses to Office of Long-Term Resiliency media requests.
  • Handle media inquiries, distributing office news to staff, drafting statements for internal and external communication.
  • Writing, editing, and distributing program press releases, statements, correspondences, marketing materials, responses to communications and legislative requests.
  • Plans and ensures that program communications products are current and appropriate.
  • Prepares fact sheets or other written material for distribution.
  • Assist with developing briefings for internal and external meetings through independent research.
  • Explore opportunities to find new, appropriate strategies to share OLTR's mission with a diverse stakeholder audience.
  • Update OLTR's webpage content to ensure accurate and timely improvement of content on the website.
  • Provide technical assistance to program offices and their leads within the OLTR regarding webpage content, layout, and formatting.
  • Actively monitor the OLTR's online news coverage and social media platforms.
  • Create content for the department's social media pages and engage in responsive communication with the online community.
  • Manage creation, production, editing, and dissemination of printed and electronic materials for internal education, program development, and external outreach.
  • Draft and edit automated correspondence and notifications to program participants.
  • Compile information for agency reports.
  • Attend Resiliency meetings, conferences, and related public engagements on behalf of OLTR.
  • Prepare and participate in program presentations and training.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.
