About the position

The Government Relations & Social Purpose Intern at Wawa, Inc. will support the company's initiatives related to government relations and corporate social responsibility. This full-time internship involves conducting research, assisting with communications, and analyzing data related to sustainability and legislative issues impacting the convenience retail and fuel industry. The intern will also help in reporting greenhouse gas emissions data and identifying opportunities for Wawa to advance its sustainability efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of various internal and external communications.
  • Assist with research related to global, local, and emerging trends in Government Relations & Social Purpose.
  • Research, read, interpret and report out on specific legislation and file appropriately.
  • Update Wawa's political issues matrix and the communications directory.
  • Assist with the development and preparation of various materials, communications, and presentations.
  • Provide analytical support with sustainability/environmental, social, governance (ESG) data including GHG emissions, waste, and food waste data.
  • Assist with the preparation of briefing documents for meetings with elected officials or internal stakeholders.
  • Support planning and logistics related to the annual internal Social Purpose Summit.
  • Perform general clerical activities as needed.
  • Attend specific meetings and report out to the team.
  • Perform duties and special projects as assigned by the team.
  • Support other department initiatives as needed.

Requirements

  • Pursuing bachelor's degree with a concentration or major in Political Science, Government and/or Public Policy.
  • Demonstrated interest in Sustainability, CSR, and/or ESG.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft 365 products.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or Higher.
  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a college or university for the Spring 2025 semester - Fall 2026 semester.
  • Candidate must be available from May 19, 2025 - August 7, 2025.

Benefits

  • $18.00/hour salary
  • Opportunity to work remotely on Fridays after a 4-day in-office schedule (Monday - Thursday).
