About The Position

The Government Relations Fellow will support the Governmental Relations Division of the Texas Education Agency (TEA) during the 89th Regular Session. This role is essential for providing accurate and timely information to various stakeholders, including the Legislature and internal TEA staff, to help improve outcomes for public school students in Texas. The fellow will engage with a variety of stakeholders and assist in legislative activities, ensuring that TEA meets its strategic vision for education.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
• At least four years of experience in communications, government relations, public administration, or related areas in State Legislature or Public Education.
• Valid Texas driver's license.
• Strong personal values around reliability, confidentiality, and handling sensitive information.

Nice To Haves

• Degree in Education, Public Administration, Government, Public Policy, Business, or a related field is preferred.
• Ability to tailor communications to a wide variety of stakeholders.
• Skill in compiling, evaluating, and presenting legislative information, preferably in public education.
• Skill in presenting data and information through PowerPoint and Excel presentations.

Responsibilities

• Support the functions of the Governmental Relations Division by responding to Legislative calls and requests in a timely manner.
• Assist in the preparation of materials for governmental entities, policy stakeholders, and public presentations.
• Monitor and attend legislative hearings and briefings, assisting in the completion of deliverables from these meetings.
• Establish and maintain relationships with internal TEA staff and external legislative staff.
