About the position

The Health Division's Human Resources Generalist, under the direction of the Health Division's Human Resource Director, is responsible for policy and procedure development, regulatory compliance, performance management, and evaluations, administration of FMLA monitoring the status of employees on FMLA leave, and management of employee leave. Acts as Team Lead in the absence of the Health -Human Resource Director.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures legal hiring practices are followed.
  • Develops standardized position descriptions that reflect the education, experience, job knowledge, and capabilities needed for job analysis, position evaluation, hiring, and performance management.
  • Assists management in developing and implementing Health Division and Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Provides pay grades and position slotting reports to managers, based on the Sault Tribe's current compensation schedule.
  • Processes and ensures the accuracy of data entered into the HRIS system for all new and current employees.
  • Assists Health Division management teams with CARF Accreditation.
  • Assists Health Division management teams with AAAHC Accreditation.
  • Assists in the development, interpretation, and enforcement of Health Division policies and procedures (including Tribal ordinances and applicable regulations).
  • Assists with administration of the compensation structure, to ensure internal and external equity for all job positions and pay grades.
  • Maintains and modifies pay structure as appropriate by recommending, planning, and implementing structural adjustments.
  • Researches, interprets, and explains Tribal policies, procedures, laws, standards, or regulations.
  • Oversees the administration of Health Division FMLA leave, certification, and application process.
  • Coordinates the performance management and evaluation process, including the Stay Interviews and Exit Interviews.
  • Prepares reports for Health Division HR management, Health Director, and Tribal Council as necessary.
  • Assists supervisors with performance improvement plans and performance management inquiries.
  • Assists supervisors with disciplinary and separation meetings as necessary.
  • Confers with management and assists in the development and implementation of organizational and Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Assists with difficult staffing duties, including addressing departmental understaffing, dispute resolution, employee termination, and administering disciplinary procedures.
  • Ensures proper application of local, State, and Federal workforce regulatory, compliance, and reporting requirements.
  • Ensures that necessary review is completed prior to employment terminations occurring.
  • Provides advice and counsel to managers and supervisors regarding personnel practices, policy, and employment laws.
  • Prepares account reconciliations and billing for management's approval.
  • Assists the Health Human Resources Manager-Administration with special projects.
  • Upholds daily duties of the Health Human Resource Department in the absence of the Health Human Resource Director.
  • Uphold all principles of confidentiality to the fullest extent.
  • Adhere to all professional and ethical behavior standards at Sault Ste. Marie.
  • Interact in an honest, trustworthy, and dependable manner with patients, employees, visitors, and vendors.
  • Comply with Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians Health Division policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field; five years of demonstrated ability in relevant work experience may be substituted for degree.
  • Three years of experience working in the Human Resources field is required.
  • Three years of experience investigating and resolving EEO complaints is required.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • SHRM-SCP (Society for Human Resources Management Senior Certified Professional) preferred.
  • THRP (Tribal Human Resources Professional) preferred.
  • FMLA Administration Certification preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department.
  • Must comply with annual driver's license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department.
  • Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.
