About the position

The Optometrist, under the direction of the Chief Optometrist, is responsible for performing vision tests and analyzing results. The position is responsible for screening, diagnosis, and treatment of ocular disease and; determination of refractive conditions for spectacle correction and contact lens services; prescription of eyeglasses, contact lenses and medications. The position is responsible for providing pre- and post-operative care to patients undergoing eye surgery. The position is responsible for evaluating patients for the presence of diseases such as diabetes and referring patients to other healthcare providers as needed. The position is responsible for promoting eye health by counseling patients.

Responsibilities

  • Patient Care including screening, diagnosis, and treatment of Ocular disease.
  • Determination of refractive conditions for spectacle correction and contact lens services.
  • Knowledge and application of Ophthalmic Optics.
  • Utilization and interpretation of OCT Cirrus, Visual fields, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Coverage for other locations.
  • Insertion of eye drops.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) required.
  • One year of previous experience employed as an Optometrist preferred.
  • Must have and maintain current Michigan Optometry License.
  • DPA (Diagnostic Pharmaceutical Agents) Certification required.
  • TPA (Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents) Certification required.
  • Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check.
  • Must maintain a good moral character standing.
  • Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Records preferred.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Must maintain confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Native American preferred.
