About the position

The Field Auditor position at Davey Resource Group involves inspecting the physical infrastructure that provides electricity and telecommunications to local communities. This role is crucial for ensuring that aerial infrastructure on and between utility poles operates safely and efficiently. The Field Auditor is responsible for updating utility clients' databases with the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding each utility pole. This position indirectly supports telecommunications lineman teams by preparing them for any pole transfer work that may be required. The work environment is dynamic, requiring the auditor to travel frequently within the client's service territory, often working outside in various weather conditions and at different times of the day or night, including holidays. The responsibilities of the Field Auditor include performing light GPS editing of utility data, understanding document management systems, and inspecting infrastructure facilities related to utility systems. The auditor will also be tasked with identifying electric hazards and communication equipment, reviewing and correcting data integrity errors within the GIS database, and providing utility mapping support to both internal and external customers. Compliance with safety regulations is paramount, and the auditor must maintain a successful safety record while performing their duties. The work schedule typically consists of five days a week, with ten-hour shifts, and may require on-call work assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform light GPS editing of utility data
  • Understand the use of document management systems, filing, and document scanning
  • Inspect infrastructure facilities for customers related to utility systems
  • Identify electric hazards and communication equipment
  • Review and/or correct data integrity errors within the GIS Database
  • Provide utility mapping support to both internal/external customers
  • Comply with all safety regulations and meet safety requirements to maintain a successful safety record
  • Work schedules are typically 5 days per week, 10 hours per day, may require performing stand by duties or on-call work assignments

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to travel for work
  • High level of integrity, honesty, and professionalism
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time, bend, reach and to move or carry items weighing up to 25 lbs
  • Proficient use of field-based computers and tablets
  • Ability to proficiently use a handheld/backpack GPS unit and locate utility poles accurately
  • Knowledge of Google Suite (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Presentations, Forms)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Access)
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings related to utility systems
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and in various hours of the day or night and holidays as required

Nice-to-haves

  • Electric utility and telecommunications experience preferred
  • Experience auditing utility poles (1 year preferred)
