About the position
The Grade 8 Math Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and presenting instructional activities that facilitate student learning in mathematics. This role emphasizes creating a supportive educational environment that promotes both academic and social development among students. The teacher will also supervise and coordinate the activities of teacher assistants as needed.
Responsibilities
- Prepare materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson before the start of the instructional activity.
- Quickly engage students at the beginning of each lesson and maintain a high level of student time-on-task.
- Establish and enforce rules and procedures for classroom management and student behavior.
- Monitor student behavior during various instructional activities and transitions, addressing inappropriate behavior promptly.
- Begin lessons with a review of previous materials and clearly present new concepts and learning objectives.
- Provide relevant examples and demonstrations to illustrate mathematical concepts and skills.
- Assign tasks that students can successfully handle and conduct lessons at an appropriate pace for understanding.
- Circulate during class to monitor student performance and provide timely feedback on in-class and out-of-class work.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and adjust instructional plans based on assessment data.
- Interact fairly and effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and the community.
Requirements
- North Carolina ESL K-12 Licensure preferred.
- Experience in teaching mathematics at the middle school level.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage students effectively.

- Familiarity with educational technology and its application in the classroom.
