About the position

The Graduate Assistant position at Arkansas State University involves working on an NSF-funded project focused on the evolution of fragmented mitochondrial genomes in parasitic lice. The role includes utilizing molecular and bioinformatic techniques to explore genomic evolution, mito-nuclear coevolution, and phylogenetics. The selected PhD student will collaborate with a team of researchers from multiple universities and will have access to funding through Research and Teaching Assistantships.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct DNA extraction and molecular analysis.
  • Perform bioinformatic and phylogenomic analyses.
  • Prepare research papers for publication.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in biology, bioinformatics, evolutionary biology, or a related field.
  • Experience with a programming language (Python, Perl, R, etc.).
  • Experience in bioinformatics (phylogenetics, molecular evolution, etc.).
  • Basic molecular lab skills (DNA extractions, PCR, etc.).

Nice-to-haves

  • M.S. in evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • GRE scores.
