About the position

The Graduate Assistant/Research position in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is designed for graduate students to provide professional-level support in research and creative activities under the supervision of faculty members. This role involves assisting with various research projects, data collection, and development work, while also contributing to project management and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks and assist faculty members in research activities for a designated project.
  • Develop work plans in accordance with research objectives.
  • Assist in the collection of data and/or conduct independent research specific to the research project.
  • Perform development work for the project, including statistical analysis, data mining, machine learning, programming, database, web design and development, system analysis, or network administration.
  • Conduct testing, implementation, and evaluation of project deliverables.
  • Coordinate project meetings and lead project discussions.
  • Prepare reports and publications as needed.
  • Assist in other specialized administrative, technical, or editorial duties connected to the research project.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Regular admission to a UA Little Rock graduate degree program or good standing with the UA Little Rock Graduate School for continuing graduate students.
  • Ability to work the required hours (FT-50% - 20 hours per week/PT-25% - 10 hours per week) with regular attendance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Programming in languages such as Python or Java for Desktop, Server Side Web Apps, or Cloud.
  • Web Design and Development Skills involving HTML, CSS, and Javascript.
  • Database Development and Writing SQL Queries (Oracle, MS SQL Server).
  • Application Development Skills (e.g., SDLC, Agile).
  • Project Management Skills.
  • IT Infrastructure knowledge including hardware, operating systems, networks, and cloud computing.
  • Statistics, Data Mining, and Machine Learning.
  • Information Quality, Data Munging, and Data Wrangling.
