About the position

The Graduate Assistant in the Mechanical Engineering department at Prairie View A&M University will play a crucial role in supporting faculty research on the project titled "Sentient Engineering Autonomy: Learning, Intelligent and Optimal Naval Systems." This position involves collaboration with the Texas A&M University (TAMU) team, focusing on the development of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) modules for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) control systems and communications within the SEALIONS framework. The Graduate Assistant will engage in various research activities, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in this innovative field. In this role, the Graduate Assistant will be responsible for conducting thorough literature reviews to document findings relevant to the project. This foundational work is essential for informing the research direction and ensuring that the project is built on a solid understanding of existing knowledge. Additionally, the Graduate Assistant will assist in prototype building, simulation, and experimentation, which are critical components of the research process. These tasks will require a hands-on approach and a willingness to engage in practical applications of theoretical concepts. The Graduate Assistant will also be expected to perform other duties as assigned, which may vary based on the needs of the faculty and the progress of the research project. This position offers a unique opportunity for graduate students to gain valuable experience in a research environment while contributing to cutting-edge developments in engineering autonomy and intelligent systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature review and document findings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM-related area.
  • Currently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.
  • Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA.
  • For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least three (3) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.
  • No prior experience is required.
  • Fluent in English with excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Ability to multi-task; work independently (with supervision), and work cooperatively with others.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Maintain attention to detail, timely submission of deliverables, and utilize sound judgement.
