About the position

The Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) will support teacher preparation students in their preparation for the state licensing exams in mathematics, science, social studies/history, or English/language arts. This role will involve tutoring, developing study plans, and offering test-taking strategies to enhance student readiness and confidence.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized and group tutoring sessions focused on mathematics, science, social studies/history, or English/language arts.
  • Assist students in understanding key concepts and content relevant to the state licensing exam.
  • Collaborate with students to create personalized study plans that align with their strengths and areas for improvement.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust study plans as needed to maximize effectiveness.
  • Offer guidance on effective test-taking strategies, including time management, question analysis, and stress reduction techniques.
  • Facilitate workshops or study groups to reinforce test preparation strategies and foster collaborative learning.
  • Assist in creating and curating study materials, practice tests, and supplementary resources that align with state licensing exam requirements.
  • Stay updated on the latest educational standards and testing formats to provide relevant information to students.
  • Assess students' understanding of material and provide constructive feedback to help them improve.
  • Support students in self-assessment techniques to encourage independent learning.
  • Maintain open communication with students regarding their academic progress and provide encouragement.
  • Work closely with Associate Dean to coordinate tutoring sessions and gather feedback on student performance.

Requirements

  • Must be admitted to a graduate degree program.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • Be registered full-time for the respective semester: six (6) semester credit hours during the fall semester and six (6) semester credit hours during the spring semester.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of mathematics, science, social studies/history, or English/language arts.
  • Previous tutoring or teaching experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
