The Graduate Civil Design Engineer position at WSP USA involves providing essential support to technical staff, engineers, and project managers in the remediation, permitting, improvement, and construction of various infrastructure projects and systems. This role is crucial in both public and private sectors, where the engineer will engage in tasks that include assisting with the research, design, concept development, and construction of critical structures such as roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, bridges, and water supply systems, as well as sewage treatment facilities. The engineer will be responsible for generating accurate and concise reports and documentation related to assigned materials, installations, and construction specifications, ensuring that all responsibilities are met with a quality level that adheres to industry standards for design, safety, and functionality. In this role, the engineer will engage in grading and site planning design, drainage plans, and hydrology/hydraulic calculations. They will prepare site utility plans and assist project managers in coordinating with clients and team members. With minimal supervision, the engineer will collect, compile, and analyze data from various sources, including physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, and geotechnical data, to support project development, design, and construction efforts. The engineer will also conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions to ensure compliance with applicable rules, standards, and permits. Additionally, the engineer will assist in developing technologies, monitoring devices, modeling techniques, and design requirements that ensure the safety and functionality of end-users and transportation systems. They will write technical reports summarizing research findings and conclusions, generating complete and accurate documentation using sketches, calculations, and software tools. Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential, as is the ability to assist with risk identification and assessment related to design concepts and construction activities. The engineer will also be responsible for preparing work plans and coordinating field/site work and permitting, while adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies.
