About the position

The Data Scientist I position at The Trade Desk involves working closely with engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle, from ideation to production and monitoring. Data scientists are expected to take ownership of their projects, actively participating in the design, research, building, and delivery of data-focused products that enhance the media ecosystem. The role offers opportunities to work on either forecasting models or inventory-related products, depending on the candidate's expertise and interests.

Responsibilities

  • Develop ML/deep learning based forecasting models to support pre-flight and mid-flight forecasting implementations.
  • Collaborate with engineers on signal collection pipeline, model deployment, and monitoring.
  • Design success metrics and explore campaign reporting data.
  • Use data to drive iterative model improvement.
  • Work with Data Scientists, Engineers, and Product Managers to develop products that enhance inventory access for advertisers.
  • Define inventory quality and scale related metrics using data signals from various sources.
  • Design and analyze experiments (e.g., A/B tests) to validate marketplace and inventory initiatives.
  • Utilize time series forecasting techniques to predict advertising spend across marketplaces and inventory contracts.
  • Build recommendation systems that expand inventory targeting while improving relevance and business outcomes.

Requirements

  • Proficient in machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL).
  • Hands-on experience building deep learning models at large scale.
  • Strong partnership skills with cross-functional teams of data scientists, engineers, and product managers.
  • Familiarity with the forecasting domain and application experience.
  • Deep understanding of the foundations of statistics and applied mathematics.
  • Proficient in programming for data science in one or more open-source programming languages.
