About the position

Halff Associates Inc. is seeking a Graduate Engineer specializing in Electric Power Distribution to join our Energy Practice in Fort Worth, TX. This role is an exciting opportunity for recent graduates or those with limited experience to contribute to the design and implementation of electric power infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of electric power concepts, including Electric Distribution, Substation, and Transmission Design. As part of our growing Electric Power Infrastructure team, you will assist in various stages of project development, from conceptual design through to completion, ensuring that all engineering standards and client requirements are met. In this position, you will be responsible for assisting the team in the design of multiple distribution projects, which includes preparing engineering and construction drawings, cost estimates, and bills of materials. You will perform essential calculations related to distribution systems, such as cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading calculations. Additionally, you will support client presentations and reports, helping to visualize technical results and project status effectively. Collaboration with the Project Manager and other team members will be crucial to meet project deadlines and make informed engineering decisions. On-site visits will be a part of your responsibilities, allowing you to gather information on existing electric infrastructure and maintain client relationships. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a strong attention to detail, as you will be involved in various aspects of project execution and client interaction. Responsibilities

  • Assist the team in the design of multiple distribution projects from the conceptual phase through design completion, including the design package for both overhead and underground projects.
  • Prepare engineering and construction drawings, cost estimates, bills of materials, and other required deliverables.
  • Perform various distribution calculations, including cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading calculations.
  • Assist with client presentations, reports, and visualizations to demonstrate technical results and project status.
  • Work with the Project Manager to meet deadlines, aid in engineering decisions, and collaborate with other team members.
  • Responsible for on-site visits as necessary to collect existing overhead and underground electric infrastructure information, attend meetings, and develop or maintain client relationships.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Technology Degree with a PE.
  • FE or EIT in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • High-level of interpersonal relationship, communications, facilitation, team building, collaboration skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Working knowledge of GIS preferred.
  • Previous experience as an engineer or intern with an A/E or design/construction firm, or within a dedicated design group of an electric utility, petrochem, or other related industry firm that designs electric power infrastructure preferred.
  • Knowledge of NESC, NEC, or RUS or electric utility standards preferred.
  • Valid State Driver's License.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of GIS preferred.
  • Previous experience as an engineer or intern with an A/E or design/construction firm.
