About the position

The Graduate Engineer position involves planning, designing, and monitoring the construction of structures and facilities related to the city's water treatment, distribution, and sanitary sewer systems. The role requires working under immediate supervision and entails reviewing engineering plans, managing projects, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Review, coordinate, and monitor water and sanitary sewer plans and specifications for completeness and sound engineering practices.
  • Prepare plans and specifications for water and sanitary sewer renewals, including bidding and final acceptance of construction.
  • Manage multiple projects and budgets, maintaining detailed project budgets and cash flow reports.
  • Administer assigned projects from design to construction, preparing detailed reports for the City Council.
  • Minimize change orders due to design discrepancies and ensure timely completion of construction.
  • Communicate effectively with city personnel, utilities, consultants, contractors, and the public regarding utilities construction.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports and presentations related to utility projects.
  • Maintain records, files, computer models, and project statuses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited program.
  • Capability to obtain a Professional Engineer License in Texas upon completion of required engineering experience.
  • Engineering-in-Training certification or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Driver's License - Class C.
  • Knowledge of civil, structural, and hydraulic engineering principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations pertaining to design and construction.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with municipal surveys and public works design.
  • Familiarity with methods, equipment, and materials used in water and sanitary sewer construction.
  • Skills in conflict resolution and effective communication techniques.
