About the position

The Graduate Intern position at the City of Murphy's City Manager's Office offers a transformative experience for aspiring leaders in City Management. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience in various municipal management areas, including project management, data analysis, and community engagement. Interns will engage in cross-departmental projects and gain insights from experienced professionals, preparing them for a future career in City Management.

Responsibilities

  • Rotate from one department to another as assigned by the City Manager's Office.
  • Participate in and take responsibility for special projects as assigned.
  • Provide skilled, highly responsible administrative support to assist City Leadership in the completion of their professional duties and responsibilities.
  • Provide highly responsible administrative support for City Council and boards and commissions by doing research and developing materials for meetings.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities relating to City operations.
  • Research and verify various information as assigned; assist in the review and evaluation of City and department policies and procedures; participate in the development of new policies and procedures.
  • Answer questions and provide information to the public; assist in the resolution of citizen and City Council inquiries or refer to appropriate City personnel.
  • Compose, prepare and review a variety of memoranda, correspondence, reports, statistical analyses, and documents as assigned; distribute reports for review as needed.
  • Communicate professionally, courteously, and effectively with other city employees, officials, and the public.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration or other related field.
  • Currently enrolled in a Master's degree program in public administration at an accredited university or a recent graduate (within 6 months) of a Master's degree program in public administration from an accredited university.
  • A valid Texas Class C Driver's License with a driving record in compliance with City policy.
