About the position

The Graduate Program Manager at Columbia University's Department of Biomedical Informatics is responsible for managing the master's and other educational programs. This role involves overseeing the recruitment and admissions processes, coordinating educational initiatives, advising students, and ensuring compliance with degree requirements. The position plays a crucial role in enhancing the student experience and supporting the department's growth in education and research.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and prepares applications for review, schedules and coordinates applicant/faculty interviews, coordinates and attends admissions meetings, processes decisions in online systems.
  • Tracks program metrics and student milestones, creating and maintaining a database to keep track of student status and ensure compliance with degree requirements.
  • Serves as a liaison and advocate for students regarding other University offices to guide students from recruitment to graduation.
  • Works with various offices at Columbia to facilitate the smooth operation of the program and the student experience.
  • Acts as the first point of contact for responding to student and program inquiries.
  • Actively participates in DBMI training committee; develops agendas and keeps minutes.
  • Handles academic course arrangements, including scheduling courses, submitting courses for approval, reserving classrooms, and assisting faculty with CourseWorks setup.
  • Interfaces with industry to coordinate capstone projects and other curricular activities.
  • Coordinates Research Seminars, handling meeting agendas, travel arrangements, and expense reimbursements.
  • Assists with operational elements of event planning, including securing event space and catering.
  • Promotes the educational programs at community events and scientific conferences.
  • Tracks and maintains a positive relationship with DBMI alumni.
  • Assists with maintenance of trainee and alumni email listservs.
  • Creates content and updates websites and other materials related to DBMI educational programs.
  • Develops and maintains the Graduate Program Coordinator Handbook and the Student Handbook.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience.
  • 4 years of related experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in a related field (e.g., health education, higher education, public health, psychology, or social work).
  • Experience in an academic environment.
  • Familiarity with Columbia University systems (Vergil, SSOL, SIS, PhDApply, Courseworks) and proficiency with ChatGPT or other AI tools.
  • Experience in student advising.
