About the position

The Graduate Research Assistant will work closely with Professor Aaron Leconte to support an ongoing research program focused on developing nucleic acid biotechnologies. This role is ideal for a recent graduate with research experience who is eager to grow and develop their skills in a collaborative laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Execute an independent laboratory research project with modest supervision.
  • Assist with writing of manuscripts and grants.
  • Mentor and train undergraduate research assistants, facilitating lab culture.
  • Assist in lab management tasks such as inventory management and organizing group meetings.
  • Support the College's Principles of Community and Principles of Diversity in job duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Biology, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of lab experience with some project leadership experience.
  • Basic technical proficiency in relevant laboratory techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to execute protocols without errors.
  • Basic understanding of experimental design and the use of controls.
  • Ability to read and analyze scientific literature.
  • Capacity to write scientific manuscripts and grants with supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and interact effectively with all members of the laboratory and college community.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience mentoring or tutoring undergraduate students.
