About the position

The Graduate Student Program/Coordinator-PV position at Chapman University is designed to provide higher-level support within the Residence Life department. This role involves significant responsibilities, including the supervision of student workers, specifically four Resident Advisors. The coordinator will hold weekly staff meetings and assist in the design and implementation of intensive training sessions for student staff during the fall and winter semesters. Additionally, the coordinator will monitor expenditures from programming budgets, ensuring that financial resources are allocated effectively to support student activities and initiatives. In terms of administration and building management, the coordinator will assist with the check-in and check-out processes for the residence area, participate in weekly meetings with their supervisor, and attend Student Affairs Division meetings once per semester. The role also includes conducting health and safety inspections of the residence area each semester and as needed, managing occupancy processes, and sharing on-call duty coverage responsibilities, which includes being available 24/7, even on holidays. Regular office hours must be maintained, and the coordinator will manage student psychological or behavioral issues in collaboration with their supervisor and other campus departments. Addressing facilities issues and managing room and building access rights are also key responsibilities, along with completing semester and year-end reports as requested by departmental leadership. The coordinator will also play a crucial role in student conduct by adjudicating administrative hearings known as “community conversations” for students who have allegedly violated university policies. This includes generating conduct letters for these hearings and maintaining Student Conduct files in a timely manner. The coordinator will work closely with the Residence Life and First Year Experience teams to identify behavior trends and address them through programming and education. Furthermore, the coordinator will provide student support and development by counseling students on personal and academic issues, addressing community concerns, and confronting policy violations within the residence halls. Staying informed of student development theory, trends, and research is essential to inform professional practice and enhance the overall student experience.
